Mellie is President of the Porgera District Women’s Association (PDWA). She joined Placer Dome (PNG) Ltd in 1988 as a Secretary/Typist and was appointed as President of PDWA in 2005.
PDWA is an established organisation representing the women of the district which includes the areas covering the Porgera Valley, and the Paiela Hewa Local Government areas.
In her role as Presindet of PDWA, Mellie is able to provide information required by PEAK on women’s issues in the Small Mining Lease (SML) and the Lease for Mining Purposes (LMP) areas. Mellie also undertakes various activities under different sectors such as: education; health; welfare services; training and business activities.
