Mr. NIGEL ROBERT AGONIA, OBE (Chairman)

Nigel R. Agonia, OBE is the Chairman of PEAK and is consequently responsible for the overall management of the PEAK Committee. Nigel is currently the Head of Secretariat of the Justice Advisory Group, an agency established to monitor the performance of the Law & Justice Sector in PNG.

He has experience in both the Government and the Private Sector. As Secretary for Minerals and Energy he also served as a director of OK Tedi Mining Ltd and Bougainville Cooper. 

Nigel is committed to ensuring that the activities of PEAK will primarily be anchored around overseeing the major transitions that will occur as closure of the Porgera Gold Mine approaches.

In 1975, Nigel was presented with the “PNG Independence Medal” and in 1984, was awarded the “Order of the British Empire’ Medal (OBE).

Dr. BEN IMBUN (Vice Chairman)

Dr. Ben Young Imbun is a Papuan New Guinea Academic, who has extensively researched and written on the labour and the management dimensions of major resource development, particularly mining, within Papua New Guinea.

Ben has taught at the University of PNG (UPNG) for in excess of ten years, and now conducts management courses at the University of Western Sydney. He has undertaken many consultancies for organizations on a range of topics, and is currently working on a publication on Labour and Law in the Pacific.

Other publications have appeared in reputable journals such as Labour, Capital and Society; Journal of Business Ethics; International Employment Review, and the Journal of Pacific Studies, to name a few.

Ben was born in Yanbu, Wabag in the Enga Province.
